Stamp carving

Description

It's been a long time since I last posted anything craft related~ But I still can't keep from making stuff with my hands, especially when I feel stressed out XD So half of them (the cats and small birds) are from my exam period, made during reviewing pauses (10 minutes at a time XD) Because I can shut my brain down when crafting (but not when drawing...)

Thanks to :iconptitangesun: for introducing me to rubber stamp carving~ The principle is simple : you draw your design with a pencil on tracing paper, and then press the paper to the rubber surface. The pencil lines transfer quite well to the rubber, and then you cut out your design~ I used materials bought at Junku, a japanese bookshop in Paris. Stamp carving is... addictive. XD The rubber is sold in rectangles, all this is from a 148x100mm block.

The butterfly is inspired from the design on the rubber package, all other designs are my own :) You can see the tracing paper used for the latest ones in the bottom right corner. The carving knives come in a set (I got the set with fine blades only <3). There is a straight knife (red) that's used for multipurpose cutting, a pointed groove knife (blue) and a round groove knife (yellow). I hardly ever use the yellow one though, it's not precise enough for what I need XD I hear normal rubbers work too, but I guess they are more fragile in the end...

your designs are mesmerizing, the bird one is my favourite!
